1. What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file placed on your device when you visit a website. Cookies can be used to remember settings, keep you signed in, or measure how a site is used. Similar technologies (local storage, pixels, beacons) can achieve the same effects and are covered by this policy where applicable.

2. The Hiway marketing site (onthehiway.com)

The public marketing site does not set advertising cookies. Our analytics provider, Plausible, is cookieless - it measures aggregate page views and referrers using your IP address hashed in memory for a single day, and does not store any cookie on your device. No Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Facebook Pixel or other third-party trackers are loaded on the marketing site.

3. The Hiway portal (portal.onthehiway.com)

If you sign in to the Hiway portal to manage your catalogue, the portal sets strictly-necessary cookies to keep you logged in and to protect your session from forgery (CSRF). These cookies are essential to the service and cannot be disabled without preventing you from using the platform.

Payments through the portal are processed by Stripe Connect. Stripe may set its own cookies on its payment pages; this is governed by Stripe’s cookie policy at https://stripe.com/cookies-policy/legal.

4. Third-party cookies on embedded content

If we embed a third-party video, social post or map on a page, the third party may set its own cookies when the embed loads. We minimise this where we can. Where third-party embeds appear, they are labelled and the third party’s privacy/cookie policy applies to their cookies.

5. Cookie categories used

Strictly necessary:Session, authentication and CSRF cookies on the portal. Required - the site cannot function without these.

Analytics:None on the marketing site (Plausible is cookieless). The portal may use minimal, first-party analytics for product telemetry; these do not track you across sites.

Advertising:None. Hiway does not run third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.

6. How to control cookies

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to refuse all cookies, accept only first-party cookies, or receive an alert when a cookie is set. Guidance for popular browsers: Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge all expose cookie controls in their Privacy or Settings menus.

Blocking strictly-necessary cookies on the portal will prevent you from signing in. Blocking analytics has no effect on the marketing site because no analytics cookies are set.

7. Changes to this policy

If we add new tooling that uses cookies - for example, if we reintroduce a heavier analytics provider, add a chat widget or run a marketing campaign that requires cookies - we will update this page and, where required by law, display a cookie consent banner before those cookies load.
